A Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in New York State, is a person who has a Master’s Degree in Social Work which must be from an accredited university and has passed the state’s licensure exam.
The “R” designation is awarded after a licensed Clinical Social Worker has had a minimum of 6 years of postgraduate professional supervision, and has met stringent credentialing guidelines.

A Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC) in New York State, is a person who provides alcoholism and substance abuse counseling services in approved work settings. Work experience for CASAC includes practice in diagnostic assessment, evaluation, intervention, referral and alcoholism and/or substance abuse counseling in both individual and group settings.
